The ski area Monterosa, among the largest and most modern in the world, has 35 lifts, 3 moving belts and over 200km of pistes and has powerful lifts and snow making equipment.
There are blue pistes, the easiest level, interesting red pistes of medium difficulty and of course also black pistes for the expert skier.
A futuristic lift is the new connection from Alagna Valsesia in Piemonte, with Passo dei Salati on the watershed of the valley of Gressoney.
It is the Funifor cable car which covers Pianalunga – Cimalegna: Salati: marvellous is the view from Passo dei Salati, but the most beautiful spectacle is that from the Colle del Bettaforca, the pass which connects the pistes of Gressoney with those of Ayas.
From the chairlift which goes up from Sant’Anna you can admire the Piramide Vincent and just behind the Punta Gnifetti, with the Capanna Margherita,(4.554m) the highest refuge in Europe. Beneath them the impressive glacier descends.
Lovers of Nordic skiing can ski cross country around the tracks of both Saint Jean and La Trinite, for a total of about 35km, encountering stadels, lake Gover and the woodlands of the Queen Margaret.
